Why Now?

NYC Department for the Aging

NYC Department for the Aging has identified Southwest Brooklyn as a community expecting a significant increase (greater than 75%) in demand for senior services over the next 7-8 years

Outgrown

Bay Ridge Center has outgrown the 4,700-square-foot facility and is expanding to a 21,000-square-foot facility to meet the needs of current clients and the expanding needs of the community

Strengthen

Expanding the capacity of BRC will strengthen our ability to seamlessly provide services across the full aging spectrum, substantially increase the number of individuals who are helped, and offer programs relevant to specific underserved groups in our community.

Why Expansion

New Facility in Southwest Brooklyn

This expansion, along with a 5-minute relocation, is aimed at bolstering BRC's capacity to offer an extended range of services and programs, designed to meet the evolving demands of the community. Through the establishment of this innovative hub, BRC seeks to empower senior citizens to age in place while providing a diverse array of activities. These activities encompass a spacious dining area, specialized exercise zones, a technology lab, an art studio, a music center featuring live DJs at least once a month, as well as education classrooms and dedicated spaces for wellness and counseling. This strategic move aligns seamlessly with BRC's mission to address the growing demand for senior services and cultivate an inclusive environment that caters to the multifaceted needs of the local aging population.

Statistics

By the age of 75, around one in three men and one in two women do not engage in regular physical activity. In response to the growing needs of older adults in Southwest Brooklyn, the Bay Ridge Center (BRC) is taking proactive measures. With the local senior population steadily increasing, BRC is undergoing a transition to a more spacious facility, moving from its current 4,700-square-foot space to a significantly larger 21,000-square-foot location. This relocation not only allows for an expanded capacity to serve a greater number of individuals but also enables the provision of a more comprehensive range of services and programs. The primary goal of this initiative is to meet the evolving demands of the community, as the demand for senior services is projected to experience substantial growth over the next 7-8 years.
